Tuskegee, Ala., Jan. 29. 1890.
Miss A. M. Longfellow,

  1. 105 Brattle st.
Cambridge,
Mass.
Dear friend,
We feel that those who give from year to year to aid a pupil in our school would like to know some thing personally of that student.
So it is our custom to have each scholar whose tuition is paid by some individual to write a letter to the one aiding him, giving some account of himself.
We find it real hard to get them to enter into particulars in regard to themselves. [p. 2] their real hardships, trials and suffering, we have to learn by accident as we associate with them. Enclosed is the letter from the young man you have aided this year. Perhaps you can gather some idea of him from his letter.
We can assure you that he is a needy and worthy pupil and if he can be kept in school until he finishes, he will be the means of much good.
Very truly,
J. W. Whittaker.
