Description
English: Italian naval ensign

Italian naval ensign, post 1848 pattern. The ensign is made of wool bunting and the hoist is a silk and cotton blend. The ensign is hand sewn with painted details on the arms in the centre. A cord and toggle is attached to hoist the ensign. The flag has three vertical stripes - green, white and red. On the centre stripe, a red shield bearing a white cross, surmounted by a crown. The blue border of the shield is made of silk ribbon. Marked in ink on the hoist: 'Adl. King C.B. no. 6'.

The flag belonged to the Duckworth King family and relates to the collection of flags associated with Admiral Sir George St. Vincent Duckworth-King (1809-1891). George King was promoted to flag rank in 1862 and from Companion of the Bath (C.B.) to Knight Commander (K.C.B) in 1873.
