English: Ironstone Delphs These spoil heaps are known as "Ironstone Delphs. This is probably the site of an early "Bloomery", a primitive furnace in which the iron ore was covered with stone and clay beneath which it was heated.
The track Moor Road on the top left of the picture was undoubtedly an early highway. |
