English: At the request of the Government of Thailand, UNESCO assists in the preservation and development of the monuments of the Sukhothai region. Sukhothai was the Thai nation first capital in the thirtheenth century A. D. Since that time, it has suffered from time, the elements and vandalism. This city, built according to a rectangular plan, possessed a remarkable irrigation system, canals, walls and dykes. Wat Mahatat.
Français : L'UNESCO, à la demande du Gouvernement thaïlandais, apporte son aide pour la préservation et la mise en valeur des monuments de Sukhothaï et de sa région. Sukhothaï fut la première capitale de la nation Thaï au XIIIe siècle de notre ère. Elle fut, depuis, victime du temps et de la nature ainsi que du vandalisme. Construite selon un plan rectangulaire, la ville possédait un remarquable réseau d'irrigation, de canaux, de murs et de digues. Ici, Wat Mahathat.
