Description
English: I joined CDC in 2005 as a Psychology Technician with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, or NIOSH. I wasn’t someone who always knew public health was for me. I really even didn’t know about NIOSH until my graduate school advisor matched me with a team of stress researchers who needed an assistant. Helping those NIOSH experts opened my eyes to the serious ways work can affect our physical and psychological health. Today, I’m a Research Psychologist at NIOSH. I partner with scientists, practitioners, and businesses to study the ways that work causes stress and affects our well-being. I recently went back to school and earned my PhD in health education. Mixing psychology with public health helps me design projects that address stress for many different professions. If I didn’t research stress for CDC, I’d love to work as a roadie for a hard rock or heavy metal band. Even though I’ve been told I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, I love music. I feel it unites people, and it helps me feel grounded through the stressful times in my own life. Stress has been called The Health Epidemic of the 21st Century. Almost everyone experiences it at one time or another, and we know it plays a role in other serious health issues, like heart disease, obesity, anxiety, and depression. I’m proud to be part of the global stress solution. I’m Jessica Streit, and I am CDC!
