| Description |
English: Hut Circles near summit of Creach Bheinn When I first encountered these huts I,like many others, puzzled as to their purpose. Especially at such an altitude and inhospitable location. However,Beinn Creach with its panoramic views, was selected as a base station for the Ordnance Survey in the early 19th century. These 'hut circles' were stone walls built around the tents of their camp to protect from inclement weather. As a mountaineer and navigator I acknowledge my debt to these men and pay tribute to their skill and dedication. |
