Notes
  • Significance: The center hall plan, gambrel-roofed house built by John Banister was similar in appearance to the William Hunter House. The doorway with its "Doric-inspired pilasters framing a low, wide archway" and classical colonettes is a nineteenth-century addition.

John Banister married Hermione Pelham and it was she who owned the lot where they built their house. Banister was also Peter Harrison's brother-in-law. The house was sold out of the family in 1821. (See Buildings of Rhode Island, p. 537)

  • Survey number: HABS RI-139
  • Building/structure dates: 1751-1764 Initial Construction
