“W. Farms Oct 25th 1828
Dear Richard I had a conversation with Colonel Burr respecting the amt due from Mr Eatons estate to Your fathers. He required me to wright to You for a power of attorney In my name in order that He might pay the money over to me He Has funds in His Hands now and wants the thing brought to a close. You Had better be on the alert for fear He may change His mind – Hannah and Henrietta Join me In Love to You all In Haste I remain D Richard Yours Very Truly H.U. Plant P.S. You Had better mention How much Is due from the Eatons estate H U P Uncle Lott has done nothing respecting your mothers estate and now He is So Lame that He cannot go out of the House. and no prospect of His doing any thing as to Settling it Therefore You Had better pay attention to it Yourself”
