English: Portrait of an amateur actress (miss Gorissen) from the Play of Saint Servatius (Sint-Servaasspel), posing in front of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, Netherlands. The play was performed several times at Vrijthof square during the 1916 Pilgrimage of the Relics (Heiligdomsvaart). This 10 or 15-day religious festival is celebrated in Maastricht every seven years and dates back to the Middle Ages. The play was written by Chrétien Mertz with music by Philip Loots, and directed by Alfons Olterdissen. Photo: Municipal Archives Maastricht (GAM 31515), part of RHCL collections. |
