Description
English: View of an open-air play (Sint-Servaasspel) performed in Vrijthof square in Maastricht, Netherlands, as part of the 1916 Pilgrimage of the Relics (Heiligdomsvaart). This 10 or 15-day religious and cultural festival is celebrated in Maastricht every seven years and dates back to the Middle Ages. The play about the life of Saint Servatius was written for this occasion by Chrétien Mertz with music by Philip Loots, and directed by Alfons Olterdissen. Photo by J.
