Description
English: The Grumman TBF Avenger has been one of the stars at Hahnweide Vintage Air Show for years and so I already caught it on camera in 2011 and put a video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTDSq-aqVZc). Unfortunately, back then the Avenger's engine RPMs matched the frame rate of my camera so perfectly, that its propeller appeared to be almost standing still. Not so in 2013! This time the Avenger's prop looked like it's supposed to and I think I was able to get some nice shots of it.

The Grumman TBF Avenger is a WWII torpedo bomber. It first flew in August 1941 and remained in military service until the 1960s. Some of them are still used as spray-applicators and water-bombers.

The Avenger featured in the video is actually not a TBF, but a TBM since it wasn't manufactured by Grumman, but by General Motors. It was delivered to the US Navy in May 1945. In 1953 it was converted to a TBM-3R version and stayed in military service for 3 more years. In 1958 it was sold to the first in a long row of civilian owners. In 1987 it was restored after having been stored for years. Two years later the aircraft was brought to the UK where it remained until it was bought by its current owner in 2006, who brought it to Switzerland, where it was registered as HB-RDG.

A more detailed history of the airplane featured in the video can be found here: http://www.touchdown-aviation.com/flying-legends/plane/switzerland--privately-owned/grumman-tbm-3r-avenger-hb-rdg.php
