English: LIBI_00019_00266; This item is an original silver gelatin postcard of a group of Vermont Cavalry veterans of the Civil War. The postcard is 3 3/8 X 5 3/8" and was produced circa 1914 by A. L. Cheney of Morrisville, Vermont. On the front, the number 2 is written above the image and the number 1 is written below the image. On the verso, a handwritten notation reads: "1. Col. Edward B. Sawyer. Commander of the Vt. Cav. for a longer period than the terms of all the other commanders combined. Taken at the age of 87, September 1915./2. Lt. Jackson Sargent, Co. D, 5th Vt. Inf. He carried the flag which led all others of the Sixth Corps & which was first planted on the Confederate works Apr. 2/65 at Petersburg. Sargent rec'd a Medal of Honor & was made Lieut. for gallantry at that time.
