The area around Grand Avenue Park has experienced significant high-rise condominium development and population growth over the past decade, with more residential development in the planning stages. With such growth, community needs develop and change, and reinvestment in the parks and open spaces is required. The City of Toronto is about to start the process for a new design and implementation plan for Grand Avenue Park.

The existing Grand Avenue Park is a 1.0-hectare parcel of greenspace located in Ward 6, more specifically on the east side of Grand Avenue, north of the Metrolinx Lakeshore Rail corridor. The City has acquired additional lands adjacent to Grand Avenue Park, between Grand Avenue, Manitoba Street, Legion Road, and the Metrolinx Lakeshore Rail Corridor, to assemble a new Grand Avenue Park Site of approximately 5.0 hectares (12 acres) in area. The working title for the design of the new park is Grand Manitoba Park.
