La cinta de Golgi está formada por pilas de Golgi adyacentes (Gs) separadas por regiones no compactas (Nc) que contienen túbulos y vesículas.
Las pilas de Golgi están conectadas a las redes de Golgi cis y trans (CGN y TGN).
La carga recién sintetizada sale del retículo endoplásmico (RE) por vesículas recubiertas de COPII (negro).
Las vesículas recubiertas de COPI (rojas) median el reciclaje del Golgi y el ERGIC.
Los portadores de transporte en el TGN incluyen vesículas recubiertas de clatrina (azul), gránulos secretores regulados (Sg) y los portadores secretores constitutivos poco entendidos (naranja). Las capas de clatrina y COPI también están asociadas a gránulos secretores.

Las conexiones tubulares heterotípicas y homotípicas entre cisternas pueden estar involucradas en el transporte intra-Golgi anterógrado y / o retrógrado.
