Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Movie 2 shows the membrane voltage in the Layer 5 Pyramidal cell model during nearly synchronous stimulus evoked synaptic stimulation of 100 synapses spatially distributed over the apical tuft (10 Hz from 100–200 ms) under 3 conditions: 1) Control with no background activity. 2) With background activity from 1500 excitatory synapses firing randomly at 0.85 Hz3) With balanced background synaptic input including inhibition from SOM-like (GABAA) and NGF-like (GABAA and GABAB) mediated inhibition. Only in the case of stimulation in the presence of excitatory input did the spatially distributed synaptic input trigger somatic action potentials which back propagates into the apical tree.
