Description
English: Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken, Austria tune

Glorious things of thee are spoken,
Zion, city of our God!
He, Whose Word cannot be broken,
Formed thee for His own abode.
On the Rock of Ages founded,
What can shake thy sure repose?
With salvation’s walls surrounded,
Thou may’st smile at all thy foes.

See! the streams of living waters,
Springing from eternal love;
Well supply thy sons and daughters,
And all fear of want remove:
Who can faint while such a river
Ever flows their thirst t’assuage?
Grace, which like the Lord, the Giver,
Never fails from age to age.

Round each habitation hovering,
See the cloud and fire appear!
For a glory and a cov’ring
Showing that the Lord is near.
Thus deriving from our banner
Light by night and shade by day;
Safe they feed upon the manna
Which He gives them when they pray.

Blest inhabitants of Zion,
Washed in the Redeemer’s blood!
Jesus, Whom their souls rely on,
Makes them kings and priests to God.
’Tis His love His people raises,
Over self to reign as kings,
And as priests, His solemn praises
Each for a thank offering brings.

Savior, if of Zion’s city,
I through grace a member am,
Let the world deride or pity,
I will glory in Thy Name.
Fading is the worldling’s pleasure,
All his boasted pomp and show;
Solid joys and lasting treasure
None but Zion’s children know.

Deutsch: Glorious things of thee are spoken, Lied über die Kirche von John Newton (1725-1807), im englischen Sprachraum überwiegend mit der Melodie von Haydns Kaiserhymne gesungen
Reimübertragung (R.F.):

Großes ist dir zugesprochen,
Zion, Gottes Glanz und Ruhm,
und das Wort ist ungebrochen:
„Sei mein Haus und Heiligtum!“
Du bist auf dem Fels errichtet;
wer erschüttert deinen Grund?
Wer tritt vor, der dich vernichtet?
Gottes Treue hält den Bund.

Frisches Wasser, dich zu tränken,
fließt aus Gottes Lebensquell.
Nichts kann deine Kinder kränken,
Gott umsorgt sein Israel.
Wer kann wanken, wer versagen,
den ein solcher Strom ernährt,
wer an Gottes Heil verzagen,
das in Ewigkeiten währt?

Sieh, es führt dich auf der Reise
Gottes Wolke, Gottes Licht.
Er ist nah, der eine Schneise
durch die Todesfluten bricht,
der dich in der Wüste rettet,
deine Not mit Manna stillt,
der dich an Oasen bettet
und dein Bitten reich erfüllt.

Zions Bürger, Gottes Herde,
durch das Blut des Lammes rein,
Jesus lässt euch für die Erde
Könige und Priester sein,
Herrscher, die sich selbst regieren,
aufrecht, mutig, liebevoll,
Priester, die statt Opfertieren
Herzen weihn zum Dankeszoll.

Jesus Christus, deine Gnade
gab uns Zions Bürgerrecht.
Hilf, dass weder Nutz noch Schade
uns in dem Bekenntnis schwächt,
dass du uns zum Haus erbautest,
wo Gott selbst das Manna reicht,
und uns Schätze anvertrautest,
denen nichts auf Erden gleicht.
