English: LIBI_00019_00576; This item is an original albumen, card-mounted photograph of George A. Custer standing in the opening of a tent during the Washita Campaign. Custer's 3 greyhounds and stag hound are also visible laying outside the tent and his pet pelican is partially visible on the lower right edge of the image. The full view photograph is 5 1/2 x 7 7/8" (8 x 10 1/16" mounted) and was produced circa 1868. The photographer is possibly W.S. Soule. On the front, a handwritten notation reads, "Gen. Custer at the Washita/[illegible words]/2 [illegible words] Scotch Stag." On the verso, a handwritten notation reads, "Autie near Ft. Dodge Kansas."
