Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Gas release valve Silverhill Country Park is situated on the slag heap from the old Silverhill Colliery, and this gas release valve (one of two) is located where the entrance to the mine shaft would have been. The valves are to stop any build-up of noxious gasses in the old shaft and the bulge in the middle is a flame trap to prevent underground explosions if the grass surrounding the valve caught fire.
