| Description |
English: Gåsvatnan Landscape Protection Area is located in Beiarn, Bodø and Saltdal municipalities, Nordland, Norway, covering the areas around Kvitbergvatnet, Skjevlfjellet, Gåsvatnan and Tverrbrennvatnet. The vast majority are located just above and below the forest border, and are surrounded by forestless mountain ranges. The bedrock is dominated by glimmer slate with larger limes of limestone and marble. In some places there are also larger lots of loose masses.
The purpose of the conservation is to preserve a unique and beautiful natural landscape, including the Jarbrud Valley with Russåga (Norway's largest unregulated underground river) and the botanically rich areas of Kvitberget and Skjevelfjell. In addition, the area together with Saltfjellet - Svartisen National Park, Saltfjellet Landscape Protection Area and Storlia Nature Reserve will help maintain a coherent nature area, which also contains many Sami and other cultural monuments.
