Summary
[edit]DescriptionFrom the Glen Gate - geograph.org.uk - 1301200.jpg |
English: From the Glen Gate. In the days of sailing ships, vessels bound upriver to Palnackie or Dalbeattie would tie up at Gibb's Hole 1300646 to await a big enough tide. The Glen Gate is the first point from which it was possible to see if there were any ships tied up, and from which an ancient cart track leads along the side of the peninsula past Cocklehaen and onward to Gibb's Hole Wood. It is only suitable for walking these days, but the bluebells in season are spectacular.
The view shows (left to right) Horse Isles, Gibbs's Hole Wood, Castlehill Wood, and South Glen Wood. |
