According to the Exhortatio on leaf 1 recto, this manuscript was begun by the Augustinian Alonso de la Vera Cruz in Mexico in approximately 1537, continued to 1567 by the Dominican Alonso de Noreña, and completed by Alonso de la Vera Cruz. This manuscript used to be bound with the Bullas / issued by Pope Pius V, printed in Rome, 1570
Leaf 102 recto has twelve lines of light verse in unconnected subjects in a rough, cursive hand in Spanish
A manuscript survey of the privileges and practices of the various mendicant orders of friars working in Spanish America, secured mainly with papal approval, as indicated by the numerous references to individual popes and their dated bulls, which were mainly intended to further the orders' missionary activities. It is arranged under headings in alphabetical order. This work was noted in Croníca de la orden de N. P. S. Augustín en las prouincias de la Nueua España en quatro edades desde el año de .1533 hasta el de .1592 / by Juan de Grijalva, printed in Mexico City, 1624, as having been left unprinted because it might have aroused controversy, though it circulated widely among the religious in Mexico in the present form
