Description

English: Photograph 1872 of summer-guests at Marstrand. Marstrand was a popular seaside community where summer-guest came to bathe and sail. Fifteenth years after this photograph was taken, the king Oskar II chose to spend his summers here. This group of fashionable men and women has opted to play croquet. When this game first became a fashionable pastime, some more conservative persons questioned if it was advisable for women to be this physically active. Especially as some shortened their skirts to their ankles for ease.
