English: Flat area by Loch Creran This area is less than 20m above sea level so it is likely that it was created as an intertidal environment on the edge of the loch before isostatic uplift of this area lifted it above sea level. Isostatic uplift is still occurring as the level of the land adjusts to the removal, about 12000 years ago, of the weight of the ice sheet that was present during the most recent glacial period. |
