Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Exposed foreshore The exceptionally low tide has exposed a profusion of flint nodules on the foreshore. They are called paramoudras or pot stones. Many of these large stones originally had a central core that was filled with chalk. Once exposed, the soft chalk is quickly washed out by wave action, leaving a large hole. One can occasionally spot pot stones in gardens where they serve as nature-made flower pots. – In the foreground an outcrop of Weybourne Crag can be seen. It dates from about 2 million years ago; it is composed of grey shelly sands that sit on top of a bed of flints, pebbles and shells. Often the crag and stone layers are cemented together by iron pan, giving the deposit a reddish colour.
