English: A straight manuka pole, about 6 feet long and 2 inches wide with two strong opposing branches was used to make a snare to catch a hawk. A cross-piece was attached near the bottom of the forks and bait was attached to this. A noose was attached to the notches carved at the top of the forks, the lower end hanging just above the bait. The tara-haha was stuck into the ground with the noose placed in position on the wind-side of the bait.
