Description
Português: Sob o nome Tupinambá são designados atualmente todos os índios que,falando uma língua Tupí-Guaraní, ocupavam, nos séculos XVI e XVII, o litoralbrasileiro, desde a foz do Amazonas, ao norte, até Cananéia, ao sul (cf.Métraux, “The Tupinamba”, p. 95). Estes índios, embora estreitamente aparentadoslinguística e culturalmente, dividiam-se em numerosas tribos, quefaziam guerra entre si, e que ficaram conhecidas por diferentes nomes, dosquais o mais comum é Tupinambá, que ocorria no Maranhão, na Bahia, noRio de Janeiro.
