Description
Deutsch: München, Pfarrkirche St. Peter (in der Südwestecke des Langhauses, an der Turmwand = Außenseite der im Turm eingerichteten Taufkapelle):
Großes (ca. 450 × 280 cm) Epitaph des Generalleutnants und Stadtkommandanten Egid Courcelles von Wachsenstein bzw. lateinisch: Ioannes Ægidius des Courcelles de Wachsenstein (1687–1755), geschaffen von Ignaz Günther, mit Portraitmedaillon des Verstorbenen, Totenkopf, Eule (als Todesvogel), zwei Putti, in Rocaillenform gestaltetem Wappen, Sarkophag sowie Attributen des Kriegshandwerks (Feldzeichen, Kanonenrohr und -kugeln usw.). Darunter die ausführliche, repräsentative lateinische Inschrift sowie eine vergoldete Rocaillen-Kartusche mit einem Bibelzitat: Cecidit Flos / Isa. XL.VII (Die Blume ist abgefallen. – Jesaja 40,7).
In der Berliner Kunstbibliothek und im Münchner Stadtmuseum sind zwei Entwurfszeichnungen Ignaz Günthers erhalten, die die Entstehungsgeschichte des Epitaphs nachzuvollziehen erlauben.
Dieses exemplarische, künstlerisch bedeutende Beispiel für ein Rokoko-Epitaph wäre einen eigenen Wikipedia-Artikel wert.
In Foto 584 habe ich die störende Hängeleuchte im Vordergrund wegretuschiert.
