Transcript InfoField | English: “New York 3rd month 14th 1826 Dear Brother R P Hunt – Thinking A few lines would be Acceptable to heare from us all – I Arrived home safe & found my family in tolerable helth [sic] they had all been verry sick with influenza which has been very prevalent in the City barely a Single family Escaped. I Called on E. Fail & informed him I would pay the Draught he told me he had rather pay it unless I would furnish the money without Interest so I concluded to let him pay it – I Rec’d a Letter from Brother Daniel stating the man whom I purchased from was uneasy for fear I would not comply with my contract as he had not heard from me I wrote him Immediately I expect he is now Satisfied – my purchase was rather unexpected to my wife however she is perfectly willing to go as we have had it pretty Large share of trouble since we moved to New York hopeing it will prove for the best. we are buissey making preparations for moving the time is fast Approaching when we shall bid Adieu to N. York if I had continued in the Baking Business I would have lost probably A Thousand Dollars by the failure of Joseph Lyon I had one hundred & fifty bbls of Bread on hand for him at the time of the fire which would not have been Due he owes one Baker between Eleven & twelve hundred Dollars Warren Rogers in on his paper for About Eighty Thousand he has also Stopped payment Lyon paid A not in to me on the 22nd for $167.00 and Stoped on the 23rd I thought at the time of being Deprived of my business & Consequently A Support for my family one of the greatest afflictions I have ever met with we being such Short Sighted finite Creaturs we don’t know what is for the best I have no doubt it was all ordered for the best—B.M. Underhill has took A house & store in Cherry St. the ensuing year for the Retail drug business in Order to Close up his old concern hopeing Eliza will be willing to go in the Country as he is very anxious to try Farming – Eliza Underhill has bin very sick so she had two Doctors to Attend her however she is now much better – R. Mount & Lydia are well they had takent the whole house where they now live Randolph is going in business on his own Account H.U. Plant is Concluded to go to West Farms to keep Tavern Mother expects to go up with them & will probably Spend the summer there She is now down to Plants to help poor Hannah as she terms her to fix things for moving Mother has Enjoyed very good health this Winter—we shall Certainly Expect to see thee & Matilda at our new habitation the Ensuing Summer or we shall hardly know how to forgive you Sister Elizabeth Briggs was put to bed with A fine pair of boys – My wife & children join in love to thee & Matilda I Remain they Affectionate Brother E.P.Quinby" back of the document: "Richard P.
