English: Potential ESCRT components at a late stage of HIV-1 budding. Detail from a negatively-stained tomogram of BLT mouse colon, showing an HIV-1 virion at a later stage of budding, nearer to scission. Slices from the tomogram reveal three lines that bisect the neck of the budding profile. The structures lie near the inner surface of the neck and can be followed through the last half of the shown volume. These lines are interpreted as components of ESCRT-III. Detail from this movie is shown in Figure S8C, panel 5. Bar = 50 nm. |
