Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Eildon Mid Hill and Little Hill from Bowdenmoor Viewed in evening light in late September, this shows Eildon Mid Hill, the highest of the Eildon Hills on the left, and Little Hill to the right. The Eildon Hills consist of three main tops, Eildon Hill North, Eildon Mid Hill and Eildon Wester Hill, but there is also the smaller top of Little Hill between Mid Hill and Wester Hill. The Eildons were formed in the distant past when a mass of molten rock was forced upwards between layers of old red sandstone. Erosion over many years caused the removal of the overlying rocks, revealing the hard magma beneath. Little Hill is a volcanic plug of basalt. Belted Galloway cattle have always been a feature in the rough grazing field in the foreground.
