Transcript InfoField | English: “New York Nov 19th 1827 Friend Richard Shortly after you left here we rec’d a letter from Col Gardiner informing us that Judge Scott was authorizing to receive the amt of your mortgage but owing to informality in the papers the payment has been delayed untill the arrival of Col Gardiner to whom we have this day paid the amt of bond & put $1082 13/100 we will forward the satisfaction piece that you may take the mortgage from record, the first safe opportunity, or if ordered by you will forward it by mail. We rec’d on the 1st inst 95 Bbls Flour which were retailed 42 Bbls 42/6 – the balance 45/ - except 1 Bbl fine Lee’s /5- this was considered at that time[inserted] a good sale $5 ¼ being the most we could get from Flour Merchants It remains about that price untill the 12th or 13th inst when the wether became very cold since which it has been gradually advancing and is now worth $6 to $6 ¼ - This price is not caused by any foreign demand but is entirely predicated on the belief that the canal has closed for the season, the supply on hand being small scarce any has yet been stored for winter demand The price is doubtless higher than it will be a month hence, and should any of yours arrive would probably decline storeing any for the winter as spoken of when you was here Large contracts have been made for southern Flour deliverable here in 3 to 4 weeks If the lot you spoke of shiping should be frozen on the way would it not pay to forward it to Troy by Land before the closing of the river.
