Sir
According to our annual custom we transmit you an acct current, also and acct sales of Flour for all of which we think that the highest market price has been obtained – but especially the last 69 bbls which was sold to a Baker, we not being able to get an offer over $5 1/2 Dolls. at that time – therefore the balance was stored – but whether it will nett as much as if sold on the wharf is verry doubtfull- owing to the weather being so unusually warm for the season, that all the Millers adjoining the city have been sending there Flour in and have caused a glut in the market, which has produced different results from what we [had?] anticipated by the principal dealers. Also very large quantities have been rec’d from the south – and is now selling at about $4 ¾ with the exception of a few of the best brands. Of Lees brand when we examined the quality and found it poor – it was infested and all but one bbl turned out fine midlings – which being in demad for the [estern?] market was sold much above its proportionate value.----- On the 3rd of Decbr we wrote you stateing that it would be perfectly convenient for us to accept for any amt that you might want – also that when amts exceeded $250 Dolls we would prefer drafts at one day sight. As yet not having been drawn on, we fear the letter has miscarried, and therefore renew our former remarks. The receipt of your draft in January pr Quinby, Kendig was also acknowledged We hope the spring market for flour will be better than present appearances indicate, although prospects are far from [flattering]
