Summary

[edit]
Description
English: East Usk Road railway bridge, Newport Looking along East Usk Road towards Clarence Place from the corner of Tregare Street. The bridge carries the South Wales mainline. Its Railtrack reference is

"East Usk Road 158m 14c SWM"

The bridge is at the western end of an area of tracks known as the Maindee Triangle. In the steam era (and occasionally now for steam specials), a rail triangle could be used for turning steam locomotives around.

At the Maindee Triangle, the ex-GWR line from Shrewsbury via Hereford is connected to the ex-GWR South Wales main line from London to Swansea by tracks making an inverted Y shape, completing the triangle.
