Description
Français : Grâce au Very Large Telescope de l’ESO, des astronomes ont pour la toute première fois observé les motifs de la granulation à la surface d’une étoile située à l’extérieur du Système Solaire – la vieille géante rouge π1 Gruis.

Cette nouvelle image acquise par l’instrument PIONIER révèle la présence de cellules convectives à la surface de cette étoile dont le diamètre excède les 350 diamètres solaires. Chaque cellule couvre plus du quart du diamètre de l’étoile et s’étend sur quelque 120 millions de kilomètres.

Cette vidéo est disponible au format 4K UHD.
