English: Marʉaweka!
Here is another high frequency phrase to supercharge your language use. High frequency phrases are phrases you use all the time and help to increase your use of language, especially at home, while learning. Here we have the late Dr. Reaves Nahwooks saying "Iku kima̠." (Come here.) two times. This is from a video of conversational phrases the Comanche Language and Cultural Preservation Committee produced. We thank them for all of their hard work over the years to get us on this road. Iku kima̠. i- (here-close enough to touch) -ku (toward a specific destination-postposition) kima (come-verb stem) This is translated as Come here. This is how you would say it as a command to one person only. Notice the a in kima is whispered both times by Mr. Nahwooks. You might not hear a speaker whisper it too. This is different from the one we shared by Puhayʉtsʉ (Geneva Woomavoyah Navarro) saying "Ibu̠nitu kima!" (Come over here!) three times. Ibu̠nitu kima! Ibu-ni-tu kima! i- (here-close enough to touch) -bu- (way-direction) -ni- (adverbial suffix) -tu (down, along, at, on) kima (come-verb stem) This is translated as Come over here! or Come this way! Listen carefully to the speaker and then... Listen, repeat, and practice! #LRP And remember the only way to do language wrong is to not do it at all! |
