Notes
  • Significance: The William Newman House, in present form, expanded from its original half-house form. The half-house is a typical, early house form in the settlement of Portsmouth, Ohio. Generally, a half-house is a three-bay wide, two-story house, with a large room and hall on the first floor, and two rooms on the second floor. The long axis of the house usually fronts on the street, set back about 10-15 feet from the sidewalk. The house is also significant for its historical association with William Newman.
