Summary
[edit]DescriptionDredging at the Victoria Channel - geograph.org.uk - 599244.jpg |
English: Dredging at the Victoria Channel. A dredging operation at the mouth of the Victoria Channel, Belfast. A 'Jack-Up' barge is sitting just out in the channel and excavated mud is being transferred onto the barge 'Long Sand'. I think that this is part of the construction for the new Stena Line terminal in Belfast.
As well as the 'Long Sand' two other barges - 'Cork Sand' and 'Trud R' (See 589129) - have been working around the clock for days here. When fully laden the barges sail out to the mouth of Belfast Lough to dump spoil into deep water, thus preventing the approach to Belfast Docks silting up. |
