Der Kölner Kriminalbiologe Dr. Mark Benecke ist seit über 20 Jahren international auf dem Gebiet der wissenschaftlichen Forensik aktiv und hat sich insbesondere der Insektenkunde verschrieben. Nach seiner Promotion an der Uni Köln im Institut für Rechtsmedizin absolvierte er mehrere fachspezifische Ausbildungen auf der ganzen Welt, so zum Beispiel beim FBI in den USA. Als Deutschlands einziger öffentlich bestellter und vereidigter Sachverständiger für biologische Spuren untersuchte er unter anderem Adolf Hitlers Schädel. Nebenbei veröffentlicht er zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Artikel, diverse Sachbücher sowie Kinderbücher und Experimentierkästen. Privat und beruflich liegen Benecke die Themen Tier-, Arten- und Klimaschutz sehr am Herzen, er lebt seit vielen Jahren vegan (und vorher vegetarisch). Sowohl auf Fachkongressen als auch im tierschutz- und politischen Umfeld (Europäisches Parlament) vermittelt er in Vorträgen und Hintergrundgesprächen Erkenntnisse unterschiedlicher Tierschutz-Gruppen.
