Summary
[edit]DescriptionDown to the Sea in Ships sperm whaling sequence.ogv |
English: A clip of a whaling expedition from the movie Down to the Sea in Ships (1922). A genuine whaling expedition was filmed for the movie. This clip shows a sperm whale being killed, stripped off blubber and drained of spermaceti. At night, the blubber is boiled on deck to extract the oil. The methods and equipment are the same as those used by 19th century whalers. |
