Description
English: U.S. Navy Douglas AD Skyraider on deck of the aircraft carrier USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) at Kobe, Japan, in mid-September 1957. The propeller aircraft were used to push the carrier's bow in harbour. The Skyraiders are AD-5W of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 11 (VAW-11) Det.B "Early Eleven" (RR-4X), AD-6/7/4Q of Attack Squadron 52 (VA-52) "Hell's Angels" (NF-4XX) and AD-5N of All Weather Attack Squadron 35 (VA(AW)-35) Det.B "Night Hecklers" (VV-88X). The squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Group 5 (CVG-5) aboard the Bon Homme Richard for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 9 July to 11 December 1957.
  • 142072 was later transferred to the USAF as 52-142072 and served toth the 602ns Special Operations Squadron. It was damaged by ground fire over northern Laos in December 1968, and made a gear-up landing at Udorn RTAFB, Thailand. It is today on display at the Royal Thai Air Force Museum.
