Summary

[edit]
Description
English: One of the classes of aircraft, most popular with visitors of the Hahnweide Air Show, are the so-called 'Warbirds'. These are mostly piston engined planes that have been used in past conflicts like World War I and II or - as in this case - the Algerian Independence War and although their existence does remind us, what they've been built for, they're still impressive testimonies of past eras of aviation. The aircraft featured here, is F-AZHK, a Douglas A-1 Skyraider which in this case is also called an AD-4N, with AD-4 being the base version and N indicating it's a night attack plane. It was built at Douglas' El Segundo plant in California and was delivered to the French Air Force in 1961, where it served for 11 more years, before it was handed over to the Air Force of Gabon. In 1976 a US citizen attempted to buy it, but somehow it took until 1991 for this aircraft to leave Gabon for France, where it is still based today (2016).
