Deutsch: - Ostseite der Kirche von der Dorfstraße aus gesehen mit rekonstruiertem Eingangstor zum Friedhof

- Gedenkstein an die Schlacht am 18. April 1864 bei den Düppeler Schanzen im Deutsch-Dänischen Krieg vom 1. Februar bis 30. Oktober 1864 (vorn) - Kriegerdenkmal für die Gefallenen des 1. Weltkriegs (an der Kirche) 

Zeitliche Einordnung

Die Bedeutung der Dorfkirche von Groß Welle wurde bisher in der Baugeschichte der Mark Brandenburg verkannt. Sie ist ein außergewöhnliches Beispiel frühmittelalterlicher Baukunst in der Prignitz. In dieser Landschaft gehört sie zu den ältesten und interessantesten Kirchen. Die Groß Weller Kirche wird vor 1250 zu datieren sein. Das ist erkennbar aus dem Baubefund und der teilweise noch sichtbaren ersten Raumfassung. Es ist ein behauener Eckbalken oberhalb des Glockenstuhls gefunden worden, der von der ursprünglichen Holzkirche stammen könnte. Ein weiterer Balken mit Holzkante ist auf 1261 datiert; ein dritter auf die Zeit um 1530. Dessen Bearbeitung zeigt, daß er ursprünglich an einer anderen Stelle oder in einer anderen Kirche gedient hat.

Die Wand der Kirche ist 1,60 m stark - die des Turmunterbaus sogar 2,40 m! Der Turm wurde nicht ausgeführt.
