Nederlands: De schipbreuk van de 'Faustus' bij Hoek van Holland, de redding van de opvarenden door de "President Jan Lels", blokkade van de Nieuwe Waterweg; Bioscoopjournaals waarin Nederlandse onderwerpen van een bepaalde week worden gepresenteerd.; Een hevige Noordwester storm drijft het Panamese vrachtschip "Faustus" op 6 november aan de grond bij Hoek van Holland. De reddingboot "Jan Lels" haalt de bemanning van boord. De golfslag is zo hoog dat het verlaten schip 's avonds eerst nog door het Noorderhoofd wordt heen gedreven en daar een groot gat inslaat alvorens het, midden in de vaarroute van de Nieuwe Waterweg, naar de diepte zinkt. De autoriteiten verklaren de volgende dag, na de schade aan de Noorderpier te hebben opgenomen en te hebben geconstateerd dat de juiste ligging van het wrak nog niet exact bekend is, de Nieuwe Waterweg voorlopig gestremd voor alle scheepvaartverkeer maar geven later, na localisering, de vaart weer vrij voor kleinere schepen. Een cameraman van Polygoon, Peter Kaart, mocht meevaren met de reddingboot en de redding van de Griekse zeelui van de "Faustus" van zeer dichtbij kon filmen. SHOTS: - Hoge golven van de zee met schuimkoppen; golven spatten tegen de dijk uiteen; - long shot: de "Faustus" ligt, slagzij makend, gestrand ter hoogte van de Noorderpier; - de reddingboot vaart uit en keert, met de bemanning van het vrachtschip, terug; div. shots van en vanaf de "Jan Lels" tijdens de vaartocht van en naar de "Faustus"; - de reddingboot komt in de luwte langszij de vrachtvaarder; de bemanningsleden van de vrachtvaarder stappen over; - op een kaart wordt mbv animatie aangegeven hoe de "Faustus", 's avonds in het donker, door de zee wordt voortgedreven en door de Noorddam heenbreekt; - golven spoelen met kracht door het gat in de pier; - luchtopnamen van het gat in de pier en van schepen die buitengaats voor anker liggen, oa de "Maasdam"; - de "Nieuw Amsterdam", noodgedwongen uitwijkend naar Amsterdam, ligt daar aan de kade; - op de plaats van het wrak drijft een wrakboei in het water; kijkers op de pier zien hoe het lichte scheepvaartverkeer weer op gang komt.
English: The shipwreck of the 'Faustus' near Hoek van Holland; Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.; A violent northwester storm runs the Panamanian cargo ship "Faustus" aground near Hoek van Holland. The lifeboat "Jan Lels" disembarks the crew. Because of the heavy water, at night the abandoned ship first drifts through the Noorderhoofd and leaves a big hole before finally sinking to the bottom of the Nieuwe Waterweg in the middle of the channel. After the local authorities inspect the damage on the North jetty and find that the precise location of the wreck has not yet been found, they declare the Nieuwe Waterweg closed for all shipping traffic until further notice. Later on, after localising the wreck, the channel is released for smaller ships. A Polygoon cameraman, Peter Kaart, was allowed to sail with the lifeboat and was able to film the rescue of the Greek crew from the "Faustus" from very close by. SHOTS: - High waves in the sea with crest; waves burst apart against the dike; - long shot: the "Faustus" lies, listing heavily, stranded near the North jetty; - the lifeboat sails and returns with the crew of the cargo ship; several shots from and of the "Jan Lels" during the passage to and from the "Faustus"; - the lifeboat comes alongside the cargo ship; the crew of the cargo ship transfers; - with the help of animation and a map it is shown how the "Faustus" drifts in the sea at night in the dark and breaks through the Noorddam; - waves crash with force through the hole in the jetty; - aerial footage of the hole in the jetty and of ships lying anchored offshore, a.o. the "Maasdam"; - the "Nieuw Amsterdam" lies by the quay in Amsterdam, forced to redirect there; - at the location of the wreck a buoy has been placed; spectators on the jetty see the small shipping traffic get started again.
