Description
Nederlands: De dood, reliëfDeze allegorie op de dood is gemaakt in 1663. Dat jaar stierf bij een pestepidemie meer dan tien procent van de Amsterdamse bevolking, waaronder Rembrandts geliefde Hendrickje Stoffels. Dit marmeren reliëf komt uit het Burgerweeshuis, waar veel kinderen leefden die hun ouders hadden verloren aan de pest, de ‘zwarte dood’.
