Summary
[edit]DescriptionCountry of my Heart - 1 - geograph.org.uk - 1549986.jpg |
English: Country of my Heart - 1 Looking north towards the Colliers Wood industrial estate with the outskirts of Eastwood on the left. D H Lawrence was born in Eastwood in 1885 and spent his youth exploring the surrounding countryside, which he called 'the country of my heart'. This view would have been familiar to him, except that Colliers Wood was in those days Moorgreen Colliery. In Sons and Lovers, he described Moorgreen Colliery as a 'large mine amongst cornfields' and even today it is easy to imagine this. |
