Summary
[edit]DescriptionCopse -, Chapel of St. Blaise - geograph.org.uk - 25354.jpg |
English: Copse :: Chapel of St. Blaise. The copse that can be seen in this image is listed on OS maps as Chapel of St Blaise. Very little of the chapel now remains, but the chapel's outline can be seen in the ground and a tiny corner fragment can still be seen, now slowly being eroded by a growing tree. St Blaise was Bishop of Sivas in Armenia in the fourth century, but his veneration spread throughout the church. I'm uncertain of the chapel's origin and why it became derelict, but it's likely to be the result of the Black Death wiping out the community it served. |
