Title |
Copper alloy stud like object |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy object, possibly a fragment of a swivelling hook from horse harness. The object is likely to be medieval in date and comprises an oval section stem which is bent and presumably broken at one end. The stem is badly corroded but remnants of gilding can be seen in one area, close to the bend. This would suggest that at least part of this stem was intended to be visible. Beyond the gilding, approximately half way along its length, the stem appears slightly waisted and worn, although this may be the result of corrosion. The stem expands to a irregular tapering conical head with cylindrical terminal beyond. The flat upper surface of the terminal is divided into six moulded triangles giving it a floreate appearance. Traces of gilding remain on both the conical head and terminal. The object measures 47mm in length. The stem has a maximum diameter of 7mm whilst the head measures a maximum of 13mm in diameter. |
