Description |
English: A copper alloy stud, possibly Roman in date. The stud consists of a rectangular section plate with two rectangular section shanks projecting from the reverse. The upper surface of the plate is decorated with a horizontal groove. This is partially filled with a black substance perhaps niello. The stud measures 31mm in length and is 8mm in width. The stud's plate is 3mm thick. The stud is similar to one excavated at South Shields Roman fort (Allason-Jones and Miket, 1984, 3.887, 238-242) |
