Title |
Copper alloy decorative mount |
||
Description |
English: A small, rectangular sheet of copper alloy, possibly part of a medieval mount. The sheet is slightly curved when looked at in section, although this may be post depositional damage. It appears that three of the sides of the plate are its original edges. However, the fourth edge is irregular. There is a small flat rectangular extension on this fourth edge, which is broken. The upper surface of the plate has incised and stamped decoration in the form of a flower with six petals. Each petal has a small ring and dot motif stamped on it and the centre of the flower has a similar ring and dot stamp. Outside the flower, in the three surviving corners of the sheet are stamped arcs/ hemispheres. The underside of the sheet is plain.
The sheet is corroded and although it appears to be gilded, these are only areas where the orginal copper alloy survives. The sheet measures 21.78mm by 24.28mm. |
