Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Combe Haven Waterway named after the former tidal inlet that once filled this valley and allowed the Romans to build port facilities to serve the nearby iron bloomeries in Beauport and Crowhurst Parks. There is also evidence William of Conqueror landed here rather than Pevensey which is situated five miles further to the west. The inlet began silting up sometime in the twelfth or thirteenth century due to lowering sea levels, longshore drift and the inning of land further inland that reduce the scour of the ebbtide.
